My name is Jim deYong. I am an advertising copywriter. I normally get paid to write glowing comments about my clients. But I’m writing this about Dr. Muran for completely personal reasons. I had been sick every day for two years. I’d seen dozens of different specialists up and down the state. None of them could figure out what was wrong with me. One night my wife went to a neighborhood party, but I stayed home because I was sick again. She came home and said, “Bob (one of our neighbors) was at the party. He looks great.” This was a huge surprise, because the last time I saw Bob he said he was dying. And he looked like it.

“Bob hears how sick you’ve been,” she said, “and he wants you to call his doctor.” She handed me Dr. Muran’s business card.

Oddly enough, I recognized the name on the card. For more than a year, my office had been directly across the street from Longevity Healthcare. But advertising people are generally pretty skeptical and the name of the place just sounded too “touchy feely” to me. However, by the time my wife gave me Dr. Muran’s card, I had been sick long enough that I was willing to try anything. Even a “touchy feely” place like Longevity Healthcare. “If they were able to help my neighbor, Bob,” I thought, “maybe they can also help me.”

I called to make an appointment. When they told me they don’t accept insurance, I thought, “this guy better be good because the money is going to come directly out of my pocket.”

As soon as I sat down with Dr. Muran, I realized he was different than all the doctors I’d seen during the previous two years. He pored over my voluminous medical records and asked me questions. Lots of questions. We talked about all my symptoms, my diet, my lifestyle, things no other doctor had ever asked me about in such detail. Finally, he zeroed in on something in my records that no other doctor had ever noticed. Something that seemed obvious in retrospect, yet something all the others had missed. He gave me a complete physical to follow up on his initial diagnosis. After about an hour, he said, “I’m pretty sure I know what’s wrong with you.” He prescribed a couple of medications and sent me home.

I told my wife, “this guy is either a genius or a quack.” And I began taking the medication. Within two days, the symptoms began clearing up. I began feeling better. Much better. After being sick every day for two years, I began to get my life back. And I give 100% of the credit to Dr. Muran and Longevity Healthcare.

I guess that means he’s a genius, because he’s definitely no quack.

It’s been a year since I first saw Dr. Muran and he continues to tweak my treatment in an effort to get me all the way back to what I used to be. I wish I’d found Dr. Muran and Longevity Healthcare much sooner. I wish I hadn’t been so cynical about what I called that “touchy feely” stuff. I’ve never had another doctor who was so willing to consider alternative therapies. I’ve never had another doctor spend as much time actually talking to me and showing a personal interest in my health.

How personal? Believe it or not, Dr. Muran and his staff called and e-mailed me several times over the last Thanksgiving holiday. He took the time during his own holiday to worry about me. That’s just not the kind of medical treatment anyone expects anymore. In the last year, I spoke to other Longevity Healthcare patients while sitting in the waiting room or while receiving treatment. They all seem to feel as strongly about Dr. Muran as I do. I’ll even go so far as to say his patients are his biggest fans.
