Nutritional Health

Food is information. This information not only provides the nutrients required for cellular function but also creates the internal ecology where vitality can flourish and our genetic influences can be best expressed. The quality of our food choices dictates the quality of information to our cells and consequently, the quality of our health.

This single, simple daily act of eating is the most fundamental and dynamic influence on the quality of our health and our life.

Examples are boundless of nutritional deficiencies and therapies impacting health. The use of folic acid has shown to be so valuable that it's deficiency during pregnancy can cause improper brain and spinal cord development in newborns. Chromium is now given to help regulate the body’s response to sugar and insulin. Coenzyme Q10 is used to prevent and manage congestive heart failure.

Genetic individuality plays a key role in determining the optimal nutrition for each person. “One person’s food is another person’s poison” expresses how two people can consume the same diet and experience opposite results.

At Wellspring Health we utilize several efficient, non-invasive tools to assess the nutritional health of our clients and provide direction on how to achieve optimal nutrition that meets their bio-individual needs.

The ZYTO Limbic Stress Assessment is a bio-communication tool that identifies individual stress response to a host of influential factors including nutritional status as well as food and environmental sensitivities.

Metabolic Typing identifies the individual response to the body’s pH, a fundamental indicator of internal chemistry. High acidity forces the body to borrow minerals and vitamins from vital organs and bones to buffer the acid and safely remove it from the body. High alkalinity can create problems with intestinal function, sluggishness, poor elimination and compromised respiratory function.

From the work of Doctors Wolcott and Kristal, Metabolic Typing is utilized to determine if the pH is out of balance and identifies the underlying system that dominates how an individual produces and processes energy, creating a Metabolic Type.

This web page and I are perpetually “under construction”. The events of my life have blessed me with the belief that each of us has the capacity to grow and expand in the direction of our choice. There are no permanent roadblocks, only solutions waiting to be identified; thus my compass through nearly six decades.

Constant education is my doorway. Growing up in a small town in Pennsylvania, I was the first in my family to graduate from high school, the first to obtain both undergraduate and post graduate degrees. All my professional endeavors have centered on supporting myself and others to exploit our potential. Details of my resume can be found below. However, what may be as relevant is my path to clinical nutrition with a PhD in holistic nutrition.

My youngest son, Brian, promptly developed eczema over his entire body after I stopped nursing him at six months of age. It took several months for our pediatrician and me to determine that it was allergy based and another year, with the help of Dr. William Rea’s Environmental Medical Clinic in Dallas, TX, to identify that he was allergic to most of the foods in the standard American diet as well as common environmental triggers.

Determined that Brian would have the nutrition he needed to grow into a healthy adult, I became immersed in the nutrition requirements for a growing child, whole foods markets, rotational diets and recipes for scratch cooking. Brian grew into a college athlete and scholar, 6’4” tall and no longer afflicted with food or environmental allergies.

Maternal motivation grew into a clinical nutrition profession with a holistic perspective and the creation of Wellspring Health Services in 1989. Everyday I work with individuals to identify how their health can be optimized by removing the obstacles and acquiring the nutrients that are the foundation for living with vitality.

Each of us is designed with our own unique blueprint for health. We have the capacity to choose to grow in our knowledge, find solutions to roadblocks and exploit our health potential.
